There actually is a coating in the prototype phase, which speeds the waves up then slow them down upon exiting. It is meant for submarines but I'm sure could be modified for a car.

They were testing it USA wise, and here radar detectors are legal, and even advertised in popular magazines like PopSci and Skymall.

the valentine1 is an asmwoee answer. but if i were you, i would suggest what your price range is.if money isnt an object, the valentine 1 is great, or check the Passport radar detector.theres a few different versions of it, but they're all amazing.

It depends on how you mausere best. The Valentine One Radar Detector is certainly best in rear radar detection, as it has a second detection antenna pointing toward the rear of the vehicle. No other radar detector provides a rear-facing radar antenna. However, the Valentine One is not the best in detection distance or false alarm performance. The Beltronics STi is best in those categories (among others). Perhaps more importantly, the Valentine One is NOT the best radar detector for avoiding police radar detector detectors. In some places where the use of radar detectors is frowned upon, police may use a radar detector detector (RDD) to locate vehicles using radar detectors. They will then fine the driver and/or confiscate the radar detector. The Beltronics STi Driver (and the new STi Remote) is the ONLY radar detector that is 100% invisible to all RDDs.So what is best depends on your particular situation. If you aren't concerned about RDD, the Valentine One is certainly a wise choice. If RDD is a concern, you are better off with the Bel STi.

I agree with this award. The Focus 3D is very deployable. This tvnonaiion has made our vision to bring laser scanning to the forest world a reality. Foresters can see it as a realistic tool to displace the traditional calipers.

I agree with this. I work with a conservation tirdsict that works in partnership with a federal agency in the U.S. One of many agencies who are currently working week to week due to threats of shutdowns for lack of money. We have some really nice LiDAR data to work with , purchased with soft money funds, but no money for training. It's mostly on the job training. It's like buying a Ferrari but not being able to afford drivers ed or the training needed to get your driver's license. I think one solution might be to package training with data. The reason being, in some cases, like our's, where we are working from grants, the funds might be available to get the data, but not the training, or GIS software to use it. Making training part of the data package may make it easier to use the data you are purchasing. By the way great blog! Thank you!

No , because they are not putting out the right wavelength of light to jam, and even then only a few guns would be affected by a "allways on" source of IR, To confuse the lidar gun you have to be transmitting as close to 905nm( nanometers ) as you can at high enough pulse rate to have the first pulse hit the sensor during its gated period.

The problem with trying to beat radar is that you have to know the radar signature of what your trying to hide and then come up with something that will mask that signature. This is the type of thing that only the military/government has the backing to accomplish.

Well only a few headlights source enough energy in the right bandwidth to have any effect, and only in older guns. Sadly Mythbusters has some science but not due diligence. If they had gotten the right LEDS (890nm to 910nm) and pulsed them at about 2 mhz with a 40 ns wide pulse. The LIDAR gun would have been blind. Again however that would have taken effort on their part to piss off the cops. And they cannot afford to do that. There are many many things you will never see on Mythbusters because they need to play nice with the police.
